Encaustic Wax Drawings
These are original encaustic artworks,
Created on a wooden plaques.
When I picked the wallpaper, the lady described this pattern as "dated", but that's sort of what I love about it. Bringing back the old.
These work use multiple techniques, to create dynamic surfaces.
-The wallpaper was laid down as my background pattern
-The bird was drawn with graphite on tracing paper, and then I transfered this drawing onto the top layer of wax, so it appears bold with a lot of contrast, and maintains the original quality of my lines
-As I fused the graphite into the wax, the image cracks a bit
-The wax dripped down the side of the plaque, which adds to the rustic hand-made feel
1970s Wallpaper design
Clearing out more attic junk, I found an unused roll of this stuff. I don't know the name of the design, only that it was made by Crown Wallcoverings, the same company that make paint.
Not so keen on this one, I guess they were going for a sort of classical plus bold seventies floral. Strongly contrasting gold, white and dark greys, the pattern is also embossed.
The greys/gold are not all 'solid' colour - view large to see the pattern detail here.
